Low Embodied Energy
"Embodied Energy" is the total amount of energy required to manufacture a product, from mining the raw materials to packaging and shipping the finished goods.
Comparing embodied energy is one of the truest ways to understand which products are really "green." Some products that seem to save energy actually require enormous energy to produce, perhaps more than they ultimately save.
Silicon solar cells Prism Solar's HPC Film requires approximately 1% of the energy needed to manufacture the same area of silicon PV cells. Incorporating HPC Film into a solar module reduces the amount of silicon in the panel by 50-75%. This greatly reduces the actual energy required to manufacture solar panels.
In addition to generating energy, HPC Film saves energy as well. It's another way HPC technology is helping to put us closer to independence from fossil fuels.
