360 Degree Collection
HPC Film enables solar modules to generate more energy with less PV material.
The key to HPC Film is its ability to collect energy from all directions, over 360 degrees. Direct, diffuse, low angle and reflected energy is concentrated onto smaller, or fewer, solar cells, which lets HPC solar modules produce more kilowatt hours, through longer periods of the day and season, without expensive mechanical tracking systems.
360-degree collection enables HPC solar modules to operate close to peak efficiency in low light conditions. In the chart below, the yellow bars show the amount of light available annually in a typical, temperate region (Columbus, OH). Lower light levels are at the left, with full sun (a condition almost never reached) at the far right.
A conventional PV module’s efficiency (blue line) drops significantly in lower light conditions, which are unfortunately the most common conditions in almost all regions.
The green curve shows that the efficiency of an HPC-equipped module remains high for lower lighting conditions. An HPC solar module will therefore generate significantly higher energy yields in all real-world lighting conditions.

360-degree collection means that HPC solar modules collect more energy for high efficiency throughout the day and year.
HPC Film allows infrared wavelengths to pass through the module, keeping solar cells operating near their optimum temperature even at 3X concentration.
Reducing the amount of expensive silicon in a solar module greatly lowers material cost. It also results in manufacturing savings through reduced assembly and processing requirements. |
